Four & Twenty Blackbirds
(identity, art direction, collateral, packaging, signage, packaging)
Sisters Emily Elsen and Melissa Elsen opened the first Four & Twenty Blackbirds location in Gowanus, Brooklyn in 2010. They focused exclusively on making pies with seasonal ingredients from local orchards—a unique concept at the time in NYC. Since opening the original pie shop, the sisters have expanded into nationwide distribution, international partnerships, and multiple storefront locations. The identity relies on language—allowing colloquialisms and pie references to stand in place of logos whenever possible. Over the course of 10 years, the Four & Twenty Blackbirds identity is its own kind of graphic pie vocabulary, evolving as the business grows and changes.
